THE LITTLE KNOWN MAGI

The Little Known Magi Mount Christian

Magi from the Far East saw the star and traveled from distant lands to Jerusalem with their heart’s willingness and preparedness to worship baby Jesus. When they saw infant Jesus they bowed down and worshiped him. Opened their treasure chest and presented him with gifts of gold, incense and Myrrh. Having warned in dream they did not return to Jerusalem to let know King Herod about baby Jesus, but returned to their country by another route.

The history of Magi is little known. It shows God’s nature who only sees our hearts and reveals HIM and not necessarily always to those who have most religious privileges, who give God more honor. On the slightest news that Messiah is born wouldn’t it be the Scribes and Pharisees the first to hasten to Bethlehem? But it was not so. A few unknown strangers from a very far land were the first to worship HIM. There may be true servants of God in places where we should not expect to find them. We may be born in dark places, but God loves us and we love Christ. There are many, who might well be expected to be the last, who are always first.

My takeaways from the Far East wise men.

They are examples of spiritual diligence. Unlike today the travel from the east is not an easy one. How many weary miles they traveled? Fatigue, troubles and dangers of the journey did not stop them. None of these things moved them. They had set their hearts on seeing Jesus ‘THE KING OF THE JEWS’. They never rested until they saw HIM.

A little grace in heart is better than high knowledge in the head. King Herod called the priests and teachers to learn where the baby to be born. The highly knowledgeable Priests and teachers gave ready answer return to Herod. But they never went to Bethlehem to worship Christ. They could not believe in HIM. Their heads were better than their hearts. They had much of perishable than the everlasting God’s grace. A little grace is enough. Grace leads on to glory. The everlasting God’s grace alone saves us.

Truly, they are striking examples of Faith. They believed in Christ even when they never saw HIM.  They believed in God’s work and must have learnt and researched the scripture to know about the star. When they saw infant Jesus, they believed, HE is the Savior and the King of Jews. They bowed down and worshiped HIM. They saw no miracles to convince them; neither had they sought for any signs of divinity and greatness to awe them. Before them was an infant, weak needing mother’s care like anyone of us. But they believed they saw the divine savior of the world.

Each gift from the treasure chest had significance. They had full faith that they are going to see the Messiah, so they prepared their treasure chest to gift HIM.

Gold- A gift worthy of the Lordship.

Incense - A gift worthy of the Holiness.

Myrrh – A gift worthy of HIS sacrifice.

The wise men recognized the star as a work of God. They researched the scripture and resolved to make a journey to worship HIM. They risked their identification with King Herod by not returning back to Jerusalem. They presented their gifts and worshiped God in fullness.

Shouldn’t we likewise recognize God’s work in our lives, know and believe in HIS words, resolve to follow HIM and HIS words regardless of the risks involved? Like the wise men we will receive our reward.

The wise men received their reward- ENTERING HIS PRESENCE and worshiping HIM in FULLNESS.

  1. My Sister Jaisheela, in Christ Jesus, thank you for writing this Blog about the “Magi.”

Your Blog is a wonderful illustration of the soverign power of God. It reminds us of the story of three wise men who heard and obeyed the voice of God and saw the “Star out of the East ” the leading to the birth place of Jesus.

Out of obedience they traveled to Discover the greatest gift born in and humanity. The immaculate conception of Mary who cares in her womb “baby Jesus. Jesus who came to reconcile the debt of our sins. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, born in a manager.

Jesus is calling us, the world 🌎, all believers to humble ourselves, and pray and seek his face as we repent. It is the sincerity of prayers from our hearts, by faith to believe, that Jesus will and has answered our Prayers. We must obey and live according to the Word of God. That is what’s missing in the World. A believing people, the body of Christ, in unity, who cry out to God, repent and keep His Word in their/our hearts as we, the candles 🕯 of the Lord shine brightly leading others out of the darkness in this world into his marvellous Light.

    God bless you
